That LibDem leadership contenders Nick Clegg and Chris Huhne managed to debate their policies for an hour on Question Time without once mentioning the European Union or the new treaty surely tells us all we need to know about their credibility and political honesty.

That no-one in the audience did so, either, can only raise doubts about how they and their questions were selected by the BBC.

Lastly, he can grasp the need for sustainable development.
