In response your article (August 8), I would like to reassure readers that TV Licensing does not sell information from its database and adheres to stringent privacy principles.

TV Licensing is subject to requests for information from agencies such as police, the Department of Work and Pensions, National Anti-Fraud Network, the Passport Agency, Social Security Agency and Inland Revenue.

However, any disclosure of information will only be made if it is lawful to do so, which includes considering whether there is social need. Disclosure of such information to public agencies also complies with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Human Rights Act 1998.
