Stop sending volunteers to work in Sudan
As a former director of a major UK charity that sent UK men and women to volunteer their skills and expertise in developing countries, I was appalled at the Gillian Gibbons situation in Sudan.
Surely the time has come to restrict the countries in which UK volunteers serve to those that appreciate the help given by so many to make life more tolerable. The way Sudan has abused Gillian Gibbons is beyond words. Any country that behaves the way it has does not deserve our help.
There are many other countries that are very appreciative of the time and effort put in by so many volunteers and overseas workers. I always admired the way our volunteers worked so patiently and diligently in conditions most of us would not accept. Away from home, the last thing they should need to worry about is whether they have used the right words in innocent conversation. Yes, cultures are different and one has to be sensible and adaptable but basic humanity is the same the world over.
All true religions preach tolerance. Perhaps the Sudanese need to revisit that word before everyone turns their backs on them and leaves them to their own cruel laws some of which should be dumped back in the dark ages where they belong. It is time for the UK to pull out of sending our volunteers to Sudan now.

This is a time that UK need to understand their commitment to so called Sudanese( Northern Sudan) since colonial Rule. You loved them and subjected Southerners to your harsh rule by favouring people of same color with you, this is the beginning of their true color. You deserve it because you created.
Mind you, "you will never make a dog to become a cow by giving cow milk" more humilliations are ahead of you be careful about Sudanese Arab government not all Sudanese

I have no responsibility for the actions of my ancestors nor do I care a jot about the sensibilities of the Muslims, Christians Jews or others.
Unfortunately a gunboat or a salutary show of force is no longer in fashion

G Wright is correct. Leave the Muslims to it. No more aid from now on. If they want help, let them ask the oil rich muslim nations of the middle east to send them teachers and money.
The problem seems to be Islam which is a cold hearted cruel religion.

I have muslim friends. They're no different from anybody else - in fact they're peaceful and loving. Is it not the few that spoil it for the many and we judge the many on the actions of the few?

Wouldn't give Sudan a penny of my money.
I daresay though we'll be helping more and more of them to settle in Britain in the near future, where they will receieve more help through benefits and social housing then I ever will. (And many of them will despise us still)
And the outcry over Morrissey's comments about Britain being swamped. It's what the vast majority of people in large cities believe completely.
Speak out against McCarthyite PC ideas before it's too late. I was never a fan of Kilroy Silk but can anybody tell one inaccuracy in the statement he made on the subject of Islam?
Not that that would matter to the PCBC (The Politically Correct Broadcasting Corporation)

I have every sympathey with Gillian Gibbons, what the Sudanese government did is undoubtedly wrong. However, the current goverment in Sudan DOES NOT represent the Sudanese people (Muslim, Christian, etc). The decision to punish poor Gillian was political and is mainly influenced by a few fanatics! 99% of the UK's aid to Sudan is offered to refugees in Darfur and Southern Sudan who never heard of Gillian and do not what a Teddy Bear is! Depriving those from aid is exactly what the fanatics in Sudan are hoping for. The UK should not punish the people of Sudan for the acts of their government

It is because of actions such as these that Sudan shows itself to truly be a Third World Country, or 4th World, or even a 5th. The fact that the people there are calling for Gillian Gibbons' death is completely astonishing. Okay, maybe not. These people wonder why no one takes them seriously. It is hard to not look at Sudan and see something other than an utterly useless group of people with their heads shoved so far up their backsides that they've lost all capacity to even by human beings. These people deserve nothing. Let them rot in their filthy little piece of desolation.

G Wright, please refrain from signing yourself as G Wright , Glasgow - please use 'Coatbridge' as your racist, intolerant and inflammatory comments are an insult to the friendly and tolerant majority of the people of that city.
Utterly disgraceful!

We should remember Gillian Gibbons and the way she has been treated next time we have a muslim demonstration and burning of our flag. Hopefully our wayward liberals may take a similar stance of 'hard line' discipline. Pigs might fly!!!

I don't think it will take government action to stop British teachers going to Sudan. The real losers here will not be the lady, who, after 15 days in prison, will get large amounts of money from our press, but the children. Islamic political correctness clearly damages their education system even more than the british version.
