I'm in a loin cloth every night so I've been following a strict diet and exercise programme. I've lost about a stone and a half since being on the TV show Any Dream Will Do. I'm on stage a lot, so that's demanding. I'm lifting weights just to make sure I've got decent muscle tone.
I've always been pretty good with food. I eat a lot of carbs and protein - a lot of chicken - but I avoid saturated fat.
I'm not touching alcohol at the moment because it dries out your singing voice. I have liked a drink in the past and I sometimes have a few glasses of wine on a Saturday night because I have Sunday off, but I don't have anything at all during the week. I drink a lot of water and I've never smoked.
The Scots have a bad name for their diet of course. I'm not sure what the statistics are like nowadays but there's still a lot of people in Scotland who like their fried foods and chippy. I like a chippy as well, it's just a case of everything in moderation. If you want to have fish and chips from the chip shop that's fine, maybe once a week.
I was overweight as a teenager because I wasn't as strict with my diet as now. I'm happy with my health routine, though. I miss my football. I used to play quite a lot back home so I don't think I'm as fit as I used to be because I used to do a lot of running on the pitch. Even though I've toned up and shaped up I wouldn't say I'm as fit as I was. After this run of Joseph is finished I'd like to start playing football regularly again at some point.
Being in Joseph can be a bit stressful. I'm doing 10 shows a week, and we're touring the country. I try to deal with that by getting plenty of sleep after the shows. My girlfriend comes to see me after the show, too, which is nice because I miss my home and my family. That helps me relax.
It was strange being in the limelight but you get used to it. You just have to be yourself. I'd say my health was affected by Any Dream Will Do, though. There was a lot of stress at the time. It was definitely a big test, and you had to prove you could deal with pressure. That was hard at first but I've now done nearly five months without missing a single show. These days I feel like I've come out the other end and I'm able to put up with a busy schedule.
Before going on stage, I lift a few weights and do push-ups just to get the blood flowing in advance. I am definitely more toned than I've ever been as a result. It's just one of these things that you have to work at. I also like to listen to music and chill out before the curtain goes up. I'm usually quite relaxed.
I'd say I was relatively happy with myself and my health, although I'd like to tone up even more. I think almost everybody has got something that they would like to improve about themselves.
