MAGISTRATES jailed South Oxhey man for four months after committing a high-speed drink-driving offence while still under a driving ban.

Isle of Wight magistrates also took the unusual step of ordering Andrew Mark Wallington's F-registered Saab car to be seized.

Wallington, 23, of Muirfield Road, admitted driving on February 11 with a breath reading of 61 - the legal limit being 35 - and to driving on a stretch of road called The Racecourse between Newport and Wootton, on the Isle of Wight, while disqualified on the same day.

Francis Phillips, prosecuting, said Wallington had driven at speeds in excess of 80 mph in a 60 mph limit before crashing over a roundabout.

Magistrates, who had been told this was his third conviction for driving while banned, said only a custodial sentence would suffice.

He was jailed for four months for driving while disqualified and for seven days, concurrent for drink-driving.

He was also disqualified for a further 12 months and his car, valued at £300 but damaged during the accident, was ordered to be forfeit.
