INTERACTIVE CROSSWORDS

USER GUIDE

Our crossword is now available online in two formats:

  1. Interactive
Fill in the crossword on screen. Clever software loads all of the interactive crossword into your browser so you don't have to stay online while you complete the puzzle. Just keep your browser open even if you close the link to your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

A new puzzle is available each day, Monday to Friday, and the previous day's version is archived online together with its solution.

IMPORTANT: Your computer and web browser must support Java to allow the interactive crossword to be displayed. It can take a little time for the crossword to load completely. Some older, less powerful computers with slower internet connections may take several minutes to download and display the grid.

Windows users can download the latest JAVA install here: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

If you are using Internet Explorer on the Mac and you are experiencing trouble getting the interactive crossword to display you may have to adjust your browser's preferences. To do this, follow these three simple steps:

    1. Go to the EDIT menu and select PREFERENCES.
    2. Select JAVA from the list on the left-hand side of the pop-up window.
    3. Under the SECURITY OPTIONS section change the BYTE-CODE VERIFICATION drop-down menu to read DON'T CHECK CODE.

Recommended Spec: P400 with at least 64mb of RAM (or equivalent)
Minimum Spec: Pentium class processor with at least 16mb of RAM (or equivalent)

  2. ACCESS PROBLEMS: If you are experiencing problems accessing the interactive crosswords this may be due to your computer's firewall set-up. A firewall is a piece of software which basically acts as a shield between your computer and content from the internet that the firewall deems to be possibly harmful to your computer. Unfortunately firewalls are not perfect and content which is perfectly safe (like our crosswords) can sometimes be blocked. If you think your firewall may be stopping you from accessing our crosswords you should contact your firewall provider for assistance.

  3. Standard Print
This version is suitable for printing out and completing away from your workstation and can be used by computers which do not have Java enabled.

The print version of the crosswords can be viewed by any browser on both PC and Macintosh formats.
