Cheers of joy in Colombo

After years of preparation to bring the games to Glasgow,
the announcement made in the ballroom of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo,
Sri Lanka, was met with a huge roar.

Many of the team, which included Alex Salmond, rugby legend
Gavin Hastings and athlete Lee McConnell, jumped up and down on their chairs.

At a press conference after the announcement,
a beaming Mr Salmond said the Games was "one of the most major,
prestigious events on earth".
