Olympic victory for Aggreko
TIM SHARPMay 10 2008

Temporary power company Aggreko has won the contract to supply the Vancouver 2010 winter Olympics, it was announced yesterday.

The decision was widely expected, although it cheered some analysts who believe the contract could boost profits from 2009, when the first units have to be installed before any snow falls. The contract is particularly valuable as winter sees a fall in demand for power rental.

ABN Amro analyst Richard Rae said: "We're not changing our forecasts at this early stage, but this is a good win, and for investors more nervous about profits from UK plc in 2009 rather than 2008, this should provide added confidence."

Aggreko did not reveal how much revenue the Games will generate for the company but a similar contract for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics gave it revenue of at least $20m (£10.3m), and analysts predict Vancouver will be equally lucrative. It is expected to get $35m for providing power to this summer's Beijing Olympics.

It will take the company three months to install all its equipment and it will use some 250 miles of cable.

Aggreko shares closed down 6.5p at 634p yesterday. On April 24 they hit a low of 590.5p.
