The blueprint for how art can be promoted in Croydon has been updated to take it into the Millennium.

The Croydon Art Plan was first drawn up in 1994, and so far has achieved successes including a disability art programme and an arts festival.

But now Croydon Council wants to look at what else can be achieved, and will be asking arts groups for their opinion.

Key changes could include a review of the grant-aid system, boosting visual arts by providing studio and gallery space and working more with young people and ethnic groups. The business plan being drawn up for the Clocktower could also form part of the art plan.

The updated plan will be drafted and put out to consultation, and the council hopes to have it in place by 2000.
