Robins ready for friendlies

Carshalton Athletic kick off the first of three glamorous pre-season friendlies on Sunday.

Greek FA Cup winners Panionios clash with the Robins at 3pm, followed by the Lions of Millwall at 7.30pm on Wednesday, and a Crystal Palace XI next Saturday. Kick-off at Colston Avenue, 3pm.

Belfast bound

Four athletes from Sutton, Banstead, and Worcester Park are flying out to Belfast next weekend to compete in the British Transplant Games.

Sutton's Frank Browne, 23, and David Grogan, 48, Worcester Park's Edmund Coady, 49, and Banstead's Graham Battershill, 18, have all had kidney transplants and are representing Surrey at the 21st annual Games.

Cup hopes high

Cheam Cricket Club's stars are through to the last 16 of the Evening Standard Cup.

On Sunday Cheam play Finchley for a place in the quarter finals after earning a seven wicket win over Harrow in the competition's fifth round.

Jump for joy

Epsom and Ewell Harrier Chris Bailey leaped to gold in the English Schools Championships at Exeter on Saturday.

The 14 year-old's 1.8m leap proved enough to take the junior high jump championship.

County champions from 46 school associations took part in the two day event.

Sutton and District Athletic Club sprinter Sarah Porter took the gold medal in the Senior Girls 100m hurdles, Team mate Richard Ward was a silver medalist in the Under17 3000m and Gareth Price was a silver medallist in the Senior Boys 1,500M.
