A string of unavailability resulted in Walton's youngsters losing their unbeaten record in their home McDonald's Young Athletes League meeting at Stompond Lane.

Guildford and Godalming who had finished runners-up in the opening three matches managed to sneak through to win with 235 points ahead of Walton (212), Kingston and Polytechnic (195), Haslemere Border (177), Camberley (56) and Waverley (25). Bonus for Walton was taking the track athlete of the match award with Ben Pugh winning the under 15 400 metres in 56.6 sec.

Another Walton winner was Alex Zeligman who putt the under 13 boys shot 8m.

Despite their defeat, Walton still head the Southern Two Surrey West Division table with 23 points from Guildford (19) and Kingston (15) and with one match remaining look certain to get a place in the promotion match in September.

Epsom and Ewell suffered their second successive defeat in the Southern Two Surrey East division at Croydon.

Herne Hill won the match with 233 points from Epsom (221), Croydon (184), South London Harriers (111), Sutton (95) and Holland Sports (92).

Epsom's Richard Mangham took the field athlete of the match award for his 7.93 metres win in the under 13 shot.

With one match to go, Epsom head the table and also look set for the promotion match.

Hercules Wimbledon are battling to hang on to their Southern One East Division place after finishing third in their match at Rochester.

Robert Graham took the under 15 200m in 24.9 sec, was second in the 100m and helped the sprint relay team's win.

Ken Frempong won the under 15 long jump (5.34m) and was second in the 80m hurdles (11.9sec); Jonathan Grayson clinched the field athlete of the match award for his 4.77 metres under 13 long jump win.
