Challenge Cup Final U14s

A single strike from Daniel Percival was enough to seal a memorable league and cup double for Borehamwood Youth.

Captain Danny Digweed lifted the Challenge Cup trophy in front of 150 spectators at Boreham Wood FC after a memorable encounter. It could have been a unique treble for the U14s this season but Edson gained revenge for the the cup defeat by knocking them out of the Benevolent Shield. The Lions have won 19 of their 21 matches this season and next week they travel to Holland to play a football tournament.

As nerves settled, the home side got into their stride and storming runs down the flanks from Daniel Banks threatened to break the deadlock.

Further pressure from midfielders Scott King and Rob Barnes caused mayhem in the opposition penalty area and it was no surprise when Percival headed an effort past the keeper.

It took a penalty shoot-out for the Lions to exit the Benevolent Shield at the semi-finals stage. The U14s were 2-0 up and cruising to victory but lapses in defence cost them dear and Edson levelled matters up to force the match into extra time.

Both sides added a goal to their tally to force the spot kick finale. Keeper Cavacuiti saved the first penalty and then scored but Edson went on to win 5-2.

LIONS: Cavacuiti, Robinson, Lever, Digweed, King, Barnes, Merrit, Kirsop, Dommet, Banks, Percival. Subs: Phillips, Daniels, Cole, Quinn, Warner.
