Barnet SE's 20 Finchley 19

London League Division Three (North-West)

Trailing 10-0 after only six minutes, Finchley fought back magnificently to lead 19-13, only to be squeezed out by the narrowest of margins through a late conversion.

Finchley had not touched the ball when the home forwards recycled scrum ball and sent the backs running, winger Glyn Bayley bursting clear to touch down as some spectators were still walking to the pitch.

The lead was doubled when Barnet's pack again won good ball, and Aaron Bell, who had a good game at scrm-half, jinked his way over.

Barnet then went off the boil, and Finchley roared back with three penalties from Brendan Moore before the break.

Retaining the initiative, Finchley went ahead with a Nick Burman try from a driving move by the forwards.

Though Bayley kicked a penalty goal for Barnet, a superb break by Finchley's Moore led to a try by Houghton-Campbell, 19-13.

Barnet's forwards then regained control, and a running penalty move led to a try by Chris Codo, Bayley's conversion clinching a famous victory.
