CHILDCARE has been boosted by lottery grants of over £150,000.

The New Opportunities Fund is awarding £43,472 to Harrow to create 109 new places 24 after-school places, 60 before and after-school places and 25 wraparound places for children aged 3-16 years old.

"We are delighted to receive this award to help meet local need for additional childcare places, especially in disadvantaged areas," said Carol Maduka, business and finance manager for the London Borough of Harrow. "Traditionally, Harrow is considered an affluent borough and we often miss out on funding aimed at designated areas of disadvantage. This award will provide extra places in some of our disadvantaged areas."

Brent will also be awarded £107,631 for 159 childcare places with the grant being used to create 55 after-school places, 12 wraparound, 32 holiday and 60 all-year places.
