The ladies of the Borehamwood Women's Institute heard an interesting talk about the life of St Trinians actress Joyce Grenfall at their September meeting.
Malka Baker, a fan of the St Trinians films, gave the talk, and spoke of Joyce's privileged background, and how she used her extensive contacts to gain a foothold in the entertainment industry.
She also recited some of Joyce's famous monologues, including some from her role as a schoolteacher, talking to her pupils.
Edith Chalkley came to the meeting and judged the competition, An Apple Cake, which was won by Irene White, Iris Edwards and Joan Perham.
Betty Chandler organised a quiz, in which the ladies answered questions about celebrities and trivia.
