A recruitment event for anyone interested in becoming a special constable will be held by Hertfordshire Constabulary this weekend.

The force will host an exhibition at the Sainsburys store in Barnet Road, London Colney, on Saturday, between 10am and 4pm. Special constables will answer questions about the work of a volunteer police officer, which ranges from foot patrols to murder enquiries.

Hertfordshire Constabulary currently has around 200 special constables, who have performed more than 48,000 hours of duty in the past 12 months. The force is keen to attract a further 50 special constables in the coming months, and is particular keen to hear from volunteers in Hertsmere.

County Commandant Peter Mould said: "Specials have exactly the same powers as regular uniformed officers and carry out the same duties."

*A recruitment open day for people interested in becoming full-time police officers, special constables or support staff will be held on Saturday, April 7.

The event will take place at Hertfordshire Police Headquarters, Stanborough Road, Welwyn Garden City, from 9.30am to 4.30pm. For information call 0800 3583990.
