Uxbridge 2

Staines 3 (Jan 12)

UXBRIDGE failed to capitalise on a first half lead after a spirited fightback from Staines, which saw them snatch a victory on Saturday.

The home side took an early lead midway through the first half when a cross found Jamie Cleary in the box to hammer home. But the lead was short-lived when a mistake by Uxbridge keeper Tony Wells saw Neil Selby sneak in to scramble the ball into the net.

Uxbridge came back at Staines immediately when Steve Walters was brought down in the area for a penalty. Lee Tunnel stepped up to convert from the spot. The second half, however, was dominated by the visiting side who controlled the game from the outset.

They were rewarded for their efforts on the hour when Andrew Sullivan levelled the scores.

Ten minutes later, Uxbridge were behind for the first time in the game when Nicky Hooper cleverly worked his way through a sleeping Uxbridge defence to beautifully chip keeper Wells.

Uxbridge were unfortunate to miss out on a point when Tunnel missed a volley towards the end of the game from close range.
