Staff and pupils at Thornton Heath's Whitehorse Manor Infant School had much to celebrate after receiving a glowing Ofsted report

A team of inspectors observed life at the 175-strong school over a four-day period in October and concluded that White Horse Manor was a very good school with many significant strengths.

In particular the report stated: "The quality of teaching is good across the school and this together with very good leadership and management results in pupils achieving well. "The school has a strong ethos based on the values of respect and co-operation in which pupils develop very good relationships.

"Pupils behave well and develop very good attitudes to school and their work.

"The school has established good links with parents and excellent links with the community."

The inspectors recognised that the school's governing body had already identified areas in which the school is attempting to improve further.

These include continuing to raise levels of attainment in speaking, writing and practical mathematics and developing the outdoor learning area for the youngest children.

Head teacher Lynne Sampson said: "We are proud of this report. Whitehorse Manor Infants is a very good school and we are particularly pleased that the inspectors praised the quality of teaching which is significantly enhanced by the provision of excellent support."

Chair of governors Richard Hill said: "I am delighted that the hard work of the head teacher and staff has been recognised in a report which clearly acknowledges the many strengths of the school."
