A GIGANTIC clock, which was worked on by thousands of young people from across south-east London, has been unveiled with great celebration in Greenwich.
The Meridian Clock, in Cutty Sark Gardens, is a 40ft high sculpture with four goddesses, representing the seasons.
Workshops were held for residents to help decorate the goddesses cloaks with flowers, leaves, butterflies and snowflakes. Every 15 minutes, between noon and 6pm, the clock springs into life with music, lights and surreal special effects.
Greenwich Council leade, Chris Roberts said: "It is fitting Greenwich should be home to the clock, and Im delighted the Millennium Commission has been able to fund this unique project enabling so many young people to take part in its creation."
It was built as part of First Night 2001 celebrations, and organisations involved include Greenwich and Docklands Festivals, Emergency Exit Arts and Arts Desire.
