ECSTACY took the life of a Blackheath man following an evening's drinking with a friend.
Philip Simons, aged 30, left his Annesley Road house to meet Mark Wise at the Goldsmiths Tavern, in New Cross.
After the night out on May 17, they returned to Mr Wise's house, in Evelyn Street, Deptford.
Mr Wise woke up in the morning to find his friend having a fit on the floor.
An ambulance was called but Mr Simons was dead on arrival at the hospital.
Mr Wise told police officers Mr Simons had taken some white powder during the evening.
Detective Inspector Brent Hyatt told Southwark Coroner's Court: “I am satisfied the cause of death was the ingestion of ecstasy. There is no evidence at all of any struggle in the flat. There are no injuries consistent with a struggle.”
Pathologist Dr Peter Jerreat gave the cause of death as MDMA (drug) poisoning.
Coroner Roy Palmer recorded a verdict of non-dependent abuse of drugs.
