TWO schoolboy raiders climbed through an open window at a charity-run care home and threw mud over a 92-year-old woman in bed after ransacking her room.

The victim had been asleep when the burglars, thought to be aged just 11 or 12, slipped into the room in Abbey Wood.

Staff will launch an investigation into the incident, which happened at Weybourne residential home for the elderly, in Finchale Road. Police are trying to piece together the exact details from the woman, who is partially-sighted and suffers from memory loss.

Wardens on duty at the home, which has 40 residents, were alerted after a passer-by saw the boys climbing out of the window.

A spokesman for the home, which is run by Kent Community Housing Trust, said: “We are doing investigations into this and we are treating it very seriously, obviously.”

Police said staff checked all the rooms and found the window ajar. The victim's family believes nothing was stolen by the boys.

A police spokesman said: “It looks like they just chucked mud over her. Her room had been rifled and interfered with, and all her property gone through. We would like someone to come forward if they have any information.”

The boys were described as white, 11 or 12-years-old with short, dark hair. It is believed they live locally.

Police want to talk to the man who alerted staff after seeing the children climb out of the window just before 9pm on February 2.

People with information can contact DC Bob Garrick at Plumstead police station on 020 8855 1212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
