A national survey of hospitals has ranked Bromley as the fourteenth best hospital in London.

Department of Health and NHS statistics, used to compile the report, suggest a postcode lottery operating in the health service with big variations in the death rates and numbers of doctors available to treat patients.

The report which was part of the Sunday Times Good Hospitals Guide, published last Sunday, gives a unique insight into the various factors including staffing, waiting times and patient confidence in British hospitals.

The information was collected by independent healthcare information and advice company, Dr Fosters.

In the report Bromley Hospital Trust compares favourably with other hospitals across the country.

Amanda Scott, of Bromley Hospital NHS Trust said: Although we are pleased to note that Bromley Hospital is doing reasonably well against the standards printed in the guide, we are of course checking the data thoroughly.

We do support the principle of making this kind of information more widely available, but it is important to remember that hospitals cannot always be directly compared.
