CHILDREN from across Kent have joined together to show how they are making their county a safer place to live in.

They took part in plays, which covered a range of hard-hitting issues such as bullying, domestic violence, relationships, drugs and vandalism.

The initiative, which was started in Thanet, is run by Kent Police and Kent County Council (KCC) along with Sevenoaks District Council and Gravesham Borough Council as well as Crime Concern.

More than 11,500 young people are involved in 80 Safe Schools projects running in secondary schools across Kent.

The pilot schemes have had success in their aim of reducing crime on schools premises. The project in Thanet reduced crime there by 75 per cent over four years.

KCC safety chairman Councillor James Scholes said: Safe Schools is becoming more and more successful every year and the amount of hard work the students dedicate to this project is definitely worth celebrating.
