NEW film studios to be built on the former Kwik Save site in Park Street will not be used as a distribution centre, St Stephen Parish Council was assured at a meeting last week.

Councillors opposed the plans last month over concerns about the amount of heavy lorries travelling through the village, and declared support for the Lorries Out Of Park Street (Loops) campaign.

Hot Networks responded to the parish council's concerns in a letter, assuring members that the site would be used soley as a filming centre with ancillary offices and not for distribution.

Chairman Ian Getley said: "They were very concerned that we were looking at the plans as a warehouse. On the plan it showed 13 loading bays but what they omitted to tell us was only two would be in use."

St Albans District Council granted developers' planning permission for the project two months ago, subject to restrictions on the usage of lorries and noise.

However, parish councillors are still worried about the extra traffic the new development will generate.

Councillor Getley added: "We are still concerned with the new 250 jobs it will bring, which will give us 500 car movements per day in volume, plus other deliveries."
