Should we apologise for the past and what will the future generations apologise for on our behalf?

Tony Blair's expression of regret for the slave trade, following on from the General Synod's apology for their role in the trade, has opened up the question whether we should and can apologise for the past and raises the issue of what future generations will apologise for on our behalf.
